Embodying the Vibe

Pitbull Clones

Summary

A growing phenomenon has emerged at Pitbull's concerts, particularly in the U.K., where fans are dressing up as "clones" of the artist, complete with bald caps, drawn-on goatees, white shirts, and black ties. This trend has rapidly grown from a minority to a majority of concert-goers. Pitbull first noticed a few look-alikes at his shows in 2021, after pandemic lockdowns. However, the movement significantly escalated when he performed in London.

Unlike celebrity look-alike contests, this phenomenon is less about perfect resemblance and more about embodying the "vibe" of Pitbull. Interestingly, the vast majority of those participating in this dress-up trend are women. Fans like Rebecca Petrie and Jamie Lee Hart, who traveled from Scotland for a gig, suggested that women are more inclined to dress up than men, with Hart stating, "Women are more brave". Pitbull appreciates this, seeing it as a reflection of his mother's lessons about being a gentleman who knows how to have a good time.

Concert attendees, dubbed "Pitbelles" by some, were seen dancing to a live DJ set outside the O2 Arena for hours before a recent London show. They took photos in front of Pitbull posters, colored in goatees on friends' faces, and then put on sunglasses. Videos from his February London show already showed a good number of look-alikes. For his June "Party After Dark" tour, ticket buyers seemed to understand that dressing up was expected. One attendee, Keeley James Elliot, emphasized the importance of a bald cap and suit to truly feel Pitbull's energy. Similar scenes are anticipated for his upcoming Europe dates in Paris, Prague, and Poland, and later in the U.S. and Australia. Pitbull is genuinely appreciative of his fans' efforts and watches them arrive for his shows, stating it's "unbelievable" to see people dressed up as him.
